Khin Ohmar

Khin Ohmar is an influential, award-winning democracy activist from Burma/Myanmar. She has been working on the front lines of women’s empowerment and political reform since the 1988 student protests. Forced into exile by the military regime, and repeatedly denied visas to return home, she has made her presence felt for the past 25+ years through organizations like Network for Democracy and Development and Progressive Voice. She remains one of the most vocal critics of the junta in Myanmar and continues to raise awareness globally and advocate for international community’s support for a federal democratic Myanmar while also working directly on issues of human rights, justice and peace in Myanmar and the region.

Ohmar continues to prioritize strengthening the democratic leadership of emerging young generation activists and civil society and protection of human rights defenders.
